Important new pre-clinical research from the USA shows that Stevia, a plant origin, non-caloric sweetener, can reduces signs of fatty liver disease. Childhood obesity is one of our greatest public health concerns, and more than 1/3 of children in Europe live with overweight or obesity. Malta, Greece, Italy and Spain have the highest rates of severe childhood obesity in the EU. The European Association for the Study of the Liver reports that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease NAFLD, which affects one in four people in the EU, is a frequent comorbidity of obesity. Fatty liver disease can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. Over consumption of sugar can lead to both obesity and fatty liver disease.
