Everyone seems to be talking about the new study published in Nature Medicine warning that Erythritol, a popular alternate sweetener, may contribute to clogged arteries and strokes.

Dr Santiago Navas Carretero a member of the SWEET Project consortium from The University of Navarra, was recently featured in El Pais speaking about alternate sweeteners and the EU H2020 SWEET Project. Santiago comments on the recent study relating the presence of Erythritol in blood and the higher risk of potential major cardiovascular events (MACE). The researcher scientist in explaining the study, endeavours to reduce alarm raised by the article, identifying and discussing some of the limitations of this research investigation, and introduces the SWEET project, which will soon begin releasing some of the main project results.
